About Greg
Greg works for Food Standards Scotland as a Meat Hygiene Inspector. He has two children, aged 19 and 21, and has been married for 23 years.
Life before Brooks and Kirk
Greg has been a Meat Inspector since 2001. In late 2020, the FSS (Food Standards Scotland) decided to begin training their own Meat Inspectors from scratch as opposed to the previous practice of employing vets from overseas to work as Meat Inspectors. In order to do this, FSS became part of the FSA training centre, using their training programme to ultimately gain qualification from RSPH.
Finding Brooks and Kirk
Becoming part of the FSA training centre meant that FSS had to train Inspectors to be Assessors for the course. Greg applied to take on one of the positions for the North of Scotland and was selected.
Greg enrolled on our CAVA course and was completing the qualification alongside working as an assessor. Greg said he felt this was hard going at times and quite time consuming, but he managed to get through both and his two trainees qualified in June last year!

Life after the Assessor Course
Greg trains and assesses trainee inspectors. In January 2022, FSS started another training course and Greg is currently assessing the second cohort of trainees who are due to qualify in May. Greg says there will be another batch starting soon afterwards, and he is looking forward to continuing in the role and perhaps in future getting an IQA qualification.
